Band Membership
The San Diego Concert Band membership is open to
anyone over 18 years of age. There are no performance auditions
for new members. Understanding the commitment of young adults
to their education, the Band does not typically accept persons
less than 18 years of age, except during the summer season. (On
the recommendation of their band directors and agreement with the
conductor and section principal, high school musicians may participate
during the summer season or year-round.)
The Band's membership consists of amateurs, music
educators, and professional musicians ranging in age from 18 to
well over 70. At its inception, the Band included members aged,
"from 18 to 80" and there were a few Pearl Harbor veterans in that cadre.
Today, the Band includes approximately 80
musicians, who rehearse once each week and perform two formal concerts,
at Kroc Center, and a variety of "in the park" style concerts
during the summer season.
The San Diego Concert Band, an all volunteer community
band, invites musicians of all ability levels to join its
quality performing group. If you have band experience, we have
a place for you. Celebrating 23 years of entertaining San Diego
residents, this band has an exciting schedule of concerts planned
every year. Annual spring and winter concerts are performed currently
at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, and a summer series
of "concerts in the park" are performed
at La Mesa's Harry Griffen Park and Balboa Park. The band frequently
features solos, full sections and small ensembles. A wide range
of music is performed, from showtunes, movie scores and marches
to concert pieces for symphonic band.
Rehearsals are every Thursday,
7-9 pm, in the band room at La Mesa Middle School (4200
Parks Ave, La Mesa
91941) No Audition required - For more information and section
